Partners in Protection members,
Following discussion during the Oct. 27 Partners in Protection Association annual general meeting, the board of directors approved a special general meeting to be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, at 11am MST, online using Zoom.
The special general meeting is being held to vote on the attached special resolution, which if approved by the membership, will result in the transfer of Partners in Protection assets (the FireSmart brand, programs, resources and funding) to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre and the dissolution of the Partners in Protection Association.
The special resolution has been amended to reflect discussion during the Oct. 27 annual general meeting, and to provide clarity for Partners in Protection members.
The board of directors wants to ensure that Partners in Protection members are cognizant that National Resources Canada funding for prevention and mitigation projects and programs will, in the future, be directed to CIFFC, thereby eliminating federal financial support for Partners in Protection / FireSmart Canada.
Therefore, the sustainability of FireSmart Canada, its messages, programs and projects, is best assured by the adoption of the special resolution.
Partners in Protection members in good standing can vote on the special resolution by attending the special general meeting or through an advance ballot. The advance ballot will be emailed to all members Nov. 23.
Two letters explaining the background and rationale for a transfer of the FireSmart brand and Partners in Protection assets to CIFFC, along with a proposed transition plan and timeline, are posted on the FireSmart Canada website here 2020 AGM Information
If you have questions, concerns or suggestions regarding the special resolution please contact President Jeff Erwin (204 391 1063) or Executive Director Ray Ault (780 222 1070).
